Driving in Europe
Almost every country outside the UK and US uses kilometres. Road signs abroad show distances in km and speed limits in km/h. Useful numbers: 50 km/h is about 31 mph (a typical town limit), 90 km/h is about 56 mph, 110 km/h is about 68 mph and 130 km/h is about 81 mph. See the km/h to mph converter for more.
Fuel economy
European car brochures quote fuel use in litres per 100 km rather than miles per gallon. Use the mpg to L/100km converter to compare, and the fuel cost calculator to price a trip.
